Tim worked for the Dallas Police Department for seven years in the City's two southern patrol divisions (Southwest and Southeast). Upon leaving he held the rank of senior corporal. He earned numerous awards, to include bravery, life saving, and expert marksmanship. He continuously shot in the top one percent of 3000 police officers at the Dallas Police Department. He work as a chief of police in a small town in North Carolina. He served 18 months as a Police Advisor and Trainer in southern Afghanistan to help rebuild the National Police force. He wrote a 600-page book titled, Shooting to Survive: How to Fight with a Pistol. Tim is currently an active police officer in North Carolina.

Awards and Commendations
During Tim's career he has received 29 commendations and been involved in life threatening situations on several occasions. In such situations, he successfully performed his duties and with a spirit of humbleness accepted the Dallas Police Department's recognition. Tim is a police officer that maintains a survival mindset and has put another's life above his own.

Meritorious Conduct Bar
For heroic achievement in the performance of hazardous duty and displaying unusual courage, at the risk of serious bodily injury, thereby meriting honor and recognition and bringing great credit to the police service.

Police Commendation Bar
For exceptionally meritorious service and outstanding contribution to the police profession, of such magnitude as to bring honor and recognition to themselves and the Department.

Life Saving Bar
For outstanding police performance, in the saving of a human life, and the display of conspicuous initiative, capability, and attention to duty, thereby earning respect and admiration for themselves and the Department.

Education Achievement Bar
This is to certify that Timothy David Blakely has satisfactory completed a Bachelor Degree course of 120 accredited hours in Human Services and is employed as a sworn member of the Department.

North Carolina Advance Certificate Bar
In recognition of having a Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college or university; has accumulated at least twenty-seven (27) law enforcement training points (800 training hours) and at least six (6) years experience.

North Carolina Law Enforcement Firearms Instructor Bar
Due to consideration of submitted application to the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission with documentation of qualification to serve as a Firearms Instructor in a criminal justice training course, has satisfied the requirements for certification to include holding a valid General Instructor's Certification and is herewith certified as a firearms instructor of the Department.

Perfect Attendance
In recognition of a high standard of attendance for a period of 5 consecutive years without the use of sick leave.

Safe Driving Certificate
In recognition of a high standard of performance in operating department vehicles for a period of 5 consecutive years without a chargeable accident.

Expert Marksmanship Award
For meeting the requirements of the Standard Police Combat Pistol Course by displaying continued excellence in marksmanship.

Field Training Officer Bar
This is to certify that Timothy David Blakely has satisfactory completed a course of 24 hours in Field Training Officer Course and in recognition therefore is awarded this certificate on this the 7th day of June, 2000.

Law Enforcement Teaching Students Bar
The Dallas Police Department certifies that Timothy D. Blakely has completed a course of training consisting of 24 hours in Law Enforcement Teaching Students Instructor Training, December 14, 1995.

Law Enforcement Training
Tim attended the Dallas Police Academy for 8 months, i.e., five days a week, eight hours a day. The academy may be the longest in the United States and certainly has an reputation for producing well-trained police officers. Tim's total career training hours are approximately 1500. While attending the academy Tim earned a physical fitness award, commendation for off-duty assistance on an anti-gang video and the top shooter award in his basic training class. He also speaks survival Spanish and utilizes it to control Spanish-speaking suspects.

Tim authored a 600-page book titled, Shooting to Survive: How to Fight with a Pistol. He had articles published in the magazines as follows: The  Firearms Instructor, The Police Chief, The Law Enforcement Trainer, and Combat Handguns. Tim has completed  two training manuals: One on the FBI firefight that occurred in 1986 with Platt and Matix and a second on a methodology of study called the P.O.L.I.C.E. Study System.
